Meet Our CEO

 CEO Q&A

Hey, Curl Babes! Behind every business, there is a CEO. Ours is the wonderful Destiny Tavarez! We’ve asked a total of 11 questions and we’ve broken them up into two different blog posts! Continue reading to learn more about her!

What’s your name, age, where are you from, what grade are you in, what are you majoring in, what are your aspirations, and future goals?

My name is Destiny Tavarez. I am 18 years old. I am Dominican and I was born and raised in NYC. I am currently a freshman majoring in psychology. I aspire to help others with their curly hair journey and grow as a business.

Tell us more about yourself.

I am from the Dominican Republic. My culture is something that is very important to me because it is a big part of who I am and how I bond with my family. In my spare time, I like to write and watch Netflix. Since I am usually busy I am big on self-care and taking time off for myself. I am also big on spending time with friends and family. I enjoy traveling and learning new things. My favorite type of music is anything Spanish really! I love bachata, merengue, dembow, etc. ( I have a huge obsession with Romeo Santos, Myke Towers, Bad Bunny, Anuel, Rauw Alejandro, etc)

What inspired you to create your own business? What were your first steps and how did you take them?

I created my own business because I've always had a passion for curly hair and I always found myself helping others and giving people tips so I thought to myself “why not start my own curly hair brand and help others that way?” My business started as just an idea. At first, I was searching for how to formulate and how to brand myself. Then I ended up getting a mentor who guided me through the whole process. She helped me learn the correct formulas and how to really brand myself. I then started to save and started creating formulas at home until I got the perfect one.

How do you manage life working, doing school, and running a business?

It is really hard being a full-time college student, having a job, and also managing this small business. One thing I do to help is to manage my time well. I try to stay as organized as possible by having a neat space and using google calendar to plan out my day. It is all about managing your time effectively.

What advice would you give to others who want to start their own business?

A piece of advice I would give to others is to always be confident when it comes to starting your own business. It is not easy starting a whole business from 0 but if you believe in yourself and work hard I promise it will pay off in the end. You also need confidence because if you don't believe in your own product or service then no one else will.

What quote do you live by?

A quote that I live by is “life is not a problem to be solved but a reality to be experienced”. I live by this because sometimes in life we get caught up with everyday tasks that we forget to enjoy life and not take for granted.
